Number of Players: 2 to 10 (4 or 5 is best)

Cards Used: 20 cards. 2 cards from each month except November and December. All cards are dregs except for the Curtain and the Moon.

Game Length: no limit

Goal: To have the highest hand

This game is very simple and very gambling oriented. All participating players are dealt 2 cards face down, 1 at a time. The player with the highest hand (as scored using the below rules) is the winner.

At the beginning of each round every player pays an ante into the pot. The winner of the hand takes the pot (in the case of a tie the pot is split). Depending on the cards held by the winner, the losers may have to pay multiples of the ante to the winner.

The game also lends itself to a few other more complicated styles of play such as that of 'Guts' poker and other poker variants.

The hands are ranked as follows: highest is the Curtain and Moon, followed by pairs (the higher the month the higher the hand), followed by a few special combinations of cards. If a player has none of the above he adds the value (month) of each of his cards and takes the last digit (so a total of 18 is worth 8, and a total of 20 is worth 0, for example).

Here's a list of the pairs and their bonus to ante (listed highest to lowest):
