This is a very basic hanafuda game played in Korea. Number of Players: 2 Cards Used: 1 full deck of 48 cards Game Length: no limit Goal: To capture high scoring cards and captured hands First the dealer deals 10 cards face-down to each player and 8 face-up to the field. There are no dealt hands in Minhwatu. If there are 4 cards from the same month in the field the dealer automatically captures those cards. Play now begins. Starting with the dealer each player captures cards (as described in the General Rules). This continues until there are no cards left in the deck. Players then add up the point value of all their captured cards and their captured hands. The point value of one players captured hands is subtracted from their opponent's score. In Minhwatu the values of the cards are as usual, except that dregs are worth 0 points rather than 1.
There is one exception to the General Rules in regards to how cards are captured. In Minhwatu, if a player captures a card in the field using a card from his hand and the extra card he draws from the deck matches those two cards, all 3 of the cards stay on the table. The player who then plays or draws the 4th card captures all 4. |
