Number of Players: 2 Cards Used: 46 cards. 2 of the December dregs cards are not used. Game Length: 6 rounds Goal: To win before your opponent and collect more points Isuri does not use the standard ordering of the cards. Instead the following order is used (those months written in yellow are those that have been changed):
All players are given the same number of mah-jong sticks or poker chips. The dealer deals 6 cards to both players, 3 at a time. The top card of the deck is turned over and placed in the middle of the table. This card is called the base card (‘äŽD). The goal of the players is to empty their hands. This is done by playing cards in sequential order starting off of the base card. If, for example, the base card is a May card, then the player has to June card. The order loops, so December is followed by January. In one turn a player plays as many cards in order as they can. A player may play as many cards from the same month at one time as he can. Once a player is no longer able to play any cards he says 'pass', his turn ends, and his opponent continues the sequence from where he left off. Plays continues back and forth in this manner until both players pass. Once that happens the cards played thus far are pushed to the side of the field and the second player to pass turns over the top card of the deck which becomes a new base card. The second player to pass places one stick or chip on the table. The first player to pass then begins the new round. The first player to empty his hand wins the round. Here is an example beginning for a game of Isuri: ![]() ![]() The number of sticks on the table at the end of the game multiplied by the number of the month of the card the winner used to win is the base payment. 1. If the winner won in a normal fashion, the loser must pay him the base payment. 2. If the winner won using a January card, the loser must pay him 10 times the base payment. 3. If the winner empties his hand on his first turn, the loser must pay him the base payment plus 10 times the number of sticks. 4. If the winner won by playing three cards from the same month, the loser must pay the base payment times 3. 5. If the winner won by playing four cards from the same month, the loser must pay the base payment times 4. 6. If the winner won by playing five cards from the same month, the loser must pay the base payment times 5. 7. If the winner won by playing six cards from the same month, the loser must pay the base payment times 6 plus the number of sticks times 10. 1. If the base card is a January card and the player has both a January card and a February card in his hand, he may play both. This special rule only applies to January and February. 2. There are multiple wild cards in Isuri, with various restrictions on what cards they can act as and when they can act as wild cards. The following chart shows the wild cards in Isuri:
Note: there is one more wild card than in Hiyoko |
