Number of Players: 3 Cards Used: 1 full deck of 48 cards. Game Length: 12 rounds Goal: To capture high-scoring cards, get captured hands, and score over 88 points. The dealer deals 7 cards to each player and 6 cards to the field. The players should now check to see if they have any dealt hands. There are only 2 dealt hands in Hana-awase, and both are simple. If a player has 7 dregs cards in his opening hand, he receives 30 points from each player (for a total of 60). If he has 6 dregs cards he receives 20 points from each player (for a total of 40). If a player has a dealt hand he must turn all the relevant cards face-up. Here's an example beginning to a game of Hana-awase, with the three players' hands, the field, and the deck in the middle of the field. The player on the right has revealed a dealt hand of 6 dregs cards. ![]() There are two special rules regarding scoring at the end of the game: 1. If the total score of all of a player's captured cards is 20 or less, the round is a draw. 2a. If either the dealer or the player sitting to his right have 8 captured cards or less, that player receives 30 points from the other players. 2b. If the player sitting to the dealer's left has 10 captured cards or less, he receives 30 points from the other players. Here are two popular additional rules that may or may not be used. If the players can not agree whether or not to use these rules, the dealer gets the final decision. 1. If any player forms the captured hand 'Willow Row', no captured hands count. Players scores are calculated solely from their dealt hands and the point value of their captured cards. 2. If a player has captured the Rain card he receives no points for the 'Moon Viewing', 'Cherry Blossom Viewing', or 'Drinking' captured hands as they have been 'rained out'.
